Japanese test today. The professor said she would make it shorter/easier because we were taking so long last time, but it was just the same if not longer. LOL Learned some more Kansai/Osaka-ben. Stayed overtime, but in the end I turned in my essay portion without answering the last part of the prompt. I could’ve answered it in about one sentence, but I thought we were going to get kicked out for taking so long so I just left it as it was. ><
After class, a bunch of my classmates and I just stood outside and talked for an hour. xD I was fun~ Went to make an appointment to see a counselor. It’s all the way on Friday, but I shouldn’t be surprised that everybody’s going in to see counselors.
My IS11 discussion was cancelled today, so I was free for the rest of the day! :D Did some homework and spent a while looking for alternative classes to take next quarter… Went to Albertsons with Martin to buy shampoo & conditioner. Might go back on Wednesday for fruit and candy. :p
Stomach ache from the time of Albertsons till just a while ago. Pippin was supposed to have a Harry Potter-themed dinner, but the only thing we got was soundtrack music. Showered and tried to continue reading for HumCore. I didn’t understand anything and kept falling asleep. Had to move to my bed because my stomach was getting unbearable. People left to trick-or-treat around 8:30, and it was around then that it got better. I should start reading for IS11 now…
“People often say that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’ and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.”—Salma Hayek
I was planning to go try on the smaller size of the shirt I bought at the bookstore and go to Albertsons, but I spent so long doing my HumCore homework I decided it was getting too late to do anything. Even though I didn’t have class today, I had to turn in an assignment before 5:00. Rushed down there around 4:30 and turned it in.
The bookstore and food courts all close at 5:00. I wanted to buy pasta from Bene Pasta, but it looked like they were cleaning up, so I didn’t want to have them make me something.. I just bought a box of pasta from the refrigerated section. Walked down to the bus stop, but I don’t think the lines were running.. Considered walking to Albertsons, but I figured it would be dark by the time I wanted to return, so I didn’t go…
Apparently I have 45 meals left on my card. I calculated that I’ll be eating about 70 more meals at the dining commons this quarter. This doesn’t coincide with my earlier calculations of eating about 140 meals per quarter and being 20 meals short. Well anyway, I’ll probably start eating more from the various food courts instead of the commons.
The Japanese junior- and senior-high-school uniform traditionally consists of amilitary style uniform for boys and a sailor outfit for girls. These uniforms are based on Meiji era formal military dress, themselves modeled on European-style naval uniforms. The sailor outfit replace the undivided hakama (andon bakama 行灯袴) designed by Utako Shimoda between 1920–30. While this style of uniform is still in use, many schools have moved to more Western-pattern parochial school uniform styles. These uniforms consist of a white shirt, tie, blazer with school crest, and tailored trousers (often not of the same color as the blazer) for boys and a white blouse, tie, blazer with school crest, and tartan culottes or skirt for girls. Since some schools do not have sex-segregated changing- or locker-rooms, students may change for sporting activities in their classrooms. As a result, such students may wear their sports uniforms under their classroom uniforms. Certain schools also regulate student hairstyles, footwear, and book bags; but these particular rules are usually adhered to only on special occasions, such as trimester opening and closing ceremonies and school photo days.
Regardless of what type of uniform any particular school assigns its students, all schools have a summer version of the uniform (usually consisting of just a white dress shirt and the uniform slacks for boys and a reduced-weight traditional uniform or blouse and tartan skirt with tie for girls) and a sports-activity uniform (a polyester track suit for year-round use and a t-shirt and short pants for summer activities). Depending on the discipline level of any particular school, students may often wear different seasonal and activity uniforms within the same classroom during the day. Individual students may attempt to subvert the system of uniforms by wearing their uniforms incorrectly or by adding prohibited elements such as large loose socks or badges. Girls may shorten their skirts, permanently or by wrapping up the top to decrease length; boys may wear trousers about the hips, omit ties, or keep their shirts unbuttoned.
It is normal for uniforms to be worn outside of school areas, however this is going out of fashion and many students wear a casual dress. While not many public elementary schools in Japan require uniforms, many private schools and public schools run by the central government still do so.
I had to look up culottes. I’ve never seen culottes as part of a Japanese uniform, but it sounds like an okay alternative for skirts.
Japanese chapter 2 test moved to Monday! Yay, now I only have 2 tests on Thursday.
For the first time, I didn’t fall asleep in Prof. Miles’s lecture!
Wrote and presented our versions of how Abraham dealt with having to sacrifice Isaac. It was actually pretty fun because there are some good actors in my class. Our essay is being pushed back because we’re behind and haven’t finished talking about the Qu’ran yet. Yessss! Writing grid is due Friday though.
Went to eat with two of my classmates because I ate “lunch” super early. I was in the mood for something cold and sweet. I didn’t want to buy Jamba Juice since it’s Jamba Juice day in the dining commons, so I bought a cup of rice pudding. I’d never had rice pudding before, but it was not bad.
Bought my scantron and blue book from the bookstore. Browsed around… They have new anteater plushes that are so cute and soft! I want one, but they’re expensive. :< Tomorrow I’ll just buy the raglan shirt I’ve been wanting for a while.
Now Rachel from the room next door is playing Pokemon on her computer too. They all have Pokemon named after each other. I’m a Spearow and a Suicune. B]
Yesterday, I remembered that I still hadn’t received my blood type card in the mail yet, so I checked this morning, and there it was! :] I know my blood type now, yay~
Almost didn’t go to JVC today because I thought it wasn’t going to happen today. For the first time, we switched partners halfway through. Both of my partners were learning Korean and like Kara and volleyball. Seriously, maybe I should go learn Korean…
Chilled half the day, but I shouldn’t have. u.u Now I’ve found out I have more homework due tomorrow, so I’ll probably be up tonight. I wanted to go to sleep early so I won’t be as likely to fall asleep in lecture tomorrow. This always happens. =_= I wanted to do my IS11 homework and study tonight too..
It’s probably a good thing that Lang-8 is down for maintenance right now.
