linguistblog:
So let’s say you come across a Chinese surname, but only know it’s Xie. Also presumably it’s first tone, Xiē.
Now looking up the 百家姓 Bǎijiāxìng (despite called “Hundred Family Names”, it contains more than 500 actually) doesn’t help, because it has two names that are Xie, but they are both…

Went to The District yesterday. Hung out in DSW Shoes and Tilly’s before eating at Five Guys. We watched This Means War. I thought it was pretty good. I have more appreciation for Tom Hardy now, haha.
Returned to school, showered, and watched Gremlins, though I fell asleep towards the end.

I’ve been systematically going through each of OOR’s albums through YouTube. After watching their concert, I guess I’m more inclined to like their songs? I don’t know. I thought I went through most of their songs before, but I don’t remember liking this many of them.
I only buy CDs if I like a majority of the songs on them, so saying I’d be willing to buy all...

There are only about 20 spots though. I hope they don’t get filled up before my enrollment window opens. ><

How Many Words Do You Need to Know in Spanish (or... →
I can’t speak. :< And I’d heard of Anki before, but I’m going to consider downloading it now. Because I’m supposed to be working on my Japanese portfolio project, and I’ve only just started learning the words from the first week. I shouldn’t have tried to make flashcards and just sat down and memorized/used Quizlet or some other SRS instead.

THATS COMPLETELY UNREASONABLE! And if that means you’re bad at languages, uh you proved them wrong just by your major LOL. And they said small percent! That doesn’t even mean you fall into that category.
Well, they also said “Given the relatively weak signal that we measure, introducing this variability...

I wanted to participate in this experiment for memory research, but I just got an email back saying that I’m ineligible because I’m left handed.
The reason for this is because a small percentage of left handers have a flip of hemispheric specialization for cognitive functions such as language.
It’s okay, but what does that mean? :o
